Serial Parameters#

Baud Rate#

Baud rate is the number of bits transmitted per second. The baud rate setting of the scan engine should match the data rate setting of the host device. If they do not match, the host may not receive the data or the data may be garbled.

Data Bits#

Data bits: this parameter defines the number of actual data bits used in communication.

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090502.png

7 Data Bits#

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090503.png

* 8 Data Bits#

Parity Bit#

A parity bit is the most significant bit of each ASCII code character. Select the parity type according to host requirements. If odd parity is selected, the parity bit is set to 0 or 1 according to the data to ensure an odd number of 1 bits in the character.

If even parity is selected, the parity bit is set to 0 or 1 according to the data to ensure an even number of 1 bits in the character.

Odd#

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090301.png

Even#

Select MARK parity, where the parity bit is always 1.

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090302.png

Mark#

Select SPACE parity, where the parity bit is always 0.

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090303.png

Space#

If parity is not required, select None.

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090304.png

* None#

Stop Bit Selection#

At the end of each transmitted character, the stop bit (S) marks the end of that character and prepares the receiving device for the next character in the serial data stream. Set the number of stop bits (one or two) to match the host device requirements.

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090201.png

* One Stop Bit#

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090202.png

Two Stop Bits#

Software Handshaking#

This parameter provides data-transmission control in addition to hardware handshaking. Hardware handshaking is always enabled and cannot be disabled by the user.

Option

Description

Disable ACK/NAK Handshaking

The scan engine neither generates nor requires ACK/NAK handshaking packets.

Enable ACK/NAK Handshaking

After sending data, the scan engine expects an ACK or NAK response from the host; the scan engine can also send ACK or NAK messages to the host.

When enabled, the scan engine waits for the host serial response until the configured timeout expires. If no ACK or NAK is received within that time, the scan engine retransmits the data up to two times before discarding it and reporting a transmission error.

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090400.png

Disable ACK/NAK Handshaking#

https://cdn.scandocs.net/scanner/manual/global/_shared/_images/module-212/2090401.png

* Enable ACK/NAK#

Host Serial Response Timeout#

This parameter specifies how long the scan engine waits for a host response before retransmitting or timing out on ACK/NAK handling. If the scan engine needs to send data but the host has not yet allowed transmission, it also waits according to this timeout.

Default

2000 ms

Unit

100 ms

Range

100-9900 ms

Host Serial Response Timeout#

Example

To set 3000 ms: scan this setting barcode, then scan the numeric setting barcodes 0 and 3 in order.

To set 9900 ms: scan this setting barcode, then scan the numeric setting barcodes 9 and 9 in order.
